How You Request Reciprocal Links
5 Jan 2005

If you’ve been reading any of the articles on this site, you know one of the best tactics to raising your rankings in search engines is for reciprocal links. But how do you get them? What strategies can you use to ask other businesses for reciprocal links?

Try out these tips.

  1. Make sure your entire website looks professional. Designing it yourself doesn’t have to be synonymous with home made. Some of our best sites were made by ordinary business owners, not graphic artists. The key is to concentrate on how your site looks to viewers. If you’re not sure how it looks, ask. Get help in designing logos or custom templates if you need it.
  2. Research the sites you’re going to link to. Why would linking to this site help you? Make sure the site is similar in nature, or has a clear context that relates to yours. People that read your site should benefit from reading the site you’re linked to.
  3. Make sure the sites you link to also look professional. If the site is accessible from your site, you must support its look and feel.
  4. Find out all contact information, and try and email a member of the management team personally. The larger the company, the more you will want to get in directly with the right contact.
  5. Provide all of your contact information. Don’t make it difficult for someone to respond to your request. List email, website, address and phone information.
  6. State the purpose of your company, and what you’re trying to achieve. If you’re new, state that you’re building up your online resources. With a few simple clicks, anyone can determine your status on the Internet. You can’t hide it. So tell people exactly what you’re trying to build, and chances are you’ll find more success.
