11 Easy Ways To Build Up Your Subscriber List

October 1, 2004

If you’ve recently started up your own online newsletter, or ezine, how are you building your subscriber list?

There are many different ways to build up a list, but I thought I would list out 11 easy methods to give you an idea of ways to start moving forward. Increasing your list merely takes time, and the ability to take action on a method at least once a week.

Tell your current clients, friends, acquaintances, and business associates. Send a sample newsletter (ezine) to them, and ask them if they are interested in becoming a regular subscriber. Also ask them to pass it along to at least 3 of their friends.
Make your sign up box for your ezine easy to find on every page of your website. When people find your site useful, they should be able to immediately take action, and sign up for your ezine.
Make a free offer to everyone whom signs up for your ezine. It’s easy to create a free report or article to distribute to someone when they sign up. Then use that as a motivational tool to bring in the subscribers. Note: You can use this as a motivator when you’re networking. Tell people to come to your site for a free report, and they’ll receive your weekly (monthly) ezine as a bonus.
List your ezine in the many directories for ezines online. There are many, such as Directory of Ezines.
Put a link to free samples of your ezine directly on your website. A person often times like to read a sample before they sign up.
Buy ads in other ezines. Research similar targeted ezines in the ezine directories.
Place classified ads announcing your free ezine in the back of trade publications in your industry.
Create special business cards announcing your ezine. Place emphasis on the benefits a person receives from reading your ezine.
Become active in online forums targeting your type of client. Forums are a great place to do business, but you have to commit to posting regularly.
Write articles for other ezines, and list your free ezine in your bio at the bottom of your article.
Promote your ezine in your signature line. Whenever you send an email, or post a message, your signature block should contain a phrase or sentence promoting your ezine.
